So many small businesses underestimate the value of Instagram. People think that is a very visual social network and it doesn't really allow you to share as much information. However, the power of connecting to more people is bigger than any other platform. A good Instagram account has the power to make people engage and discover more things about your company. It is a growing social media and done well will be able to drive more customer and more results on your business.
Here are some tips that will help you to get better results and more followers on Instagram.
1. Make sure to set up up your account as a Business
This will allow you to post your website on your Instagram profile and will get you insights about your posts. These insights will give you numbers about how many people click on your website link, metrics of your followers (how many are following you, where are they coming from and what are the posts that people are liking more). It's a terrific way to know what products people like more and what should you improve.
2. Post quality pictures and videos
You don't have to be a professional photographer but it helps to be creative. Use beautiful backgrounds, take a picture of something interesting, tell a story.
If you are using your phone to take a picture make sure you have good lighting. Avoid taking pictures with no natural light (unless you have an external good lighting source), as your phone might not be able to capture the right colors and your pictures might turn too dark.
Experiment using backgrounds like fabrics, paper colors, wood, rusty surfaces. This will create an interesting look to your product and help with likes and followers.
Keep in mind that people will follow you because they would like to see more similar posts. Be consistent in your feed.
3. Use hashtags
Hashtags are the way people are going to like and find your account. Hashtags are great when it comes to reaching the right audience since the new people who are going to like your posts are the ones that are sorting images using the hashtag you are using.
Avoid using spam hashtags like #like4like or #follow4follow, they might help to gain some followers but people who follow using these hashtags will most likely unfollow you and will not benefit your business. Instead, search for hashtags that are relevant to your business and what is popular, Instagram will show you what is popular when you start typing a hashtag.
4. Find a Story to Tell
This is one of the major factors of many advertising campaigns. Chose amain concept and purpose and find the right images that will reinforce it. People are more likely to remember a joke or a story. Find out what your followers care about so you can choose the right images, this will help your followers to interact more on your Instagram and connect with your audience emotionally. Humanizing your brand is a great way to do this. Use faces and real stories, show them the "behind the scenes" and the people behind your brand.
Airbnb does a really good job at this. They post guest's picture and allow people to connect with their brand from the guest point of view, while the own guests tell a story of their vacation
5. Be Proactive
Post constantly and experiment posting at different times and days. See what posts get more likes in what times and days. The frequency and time to post will depend of your niche.
Don't forget to check your Instagram often so you can respond to people's comments and interact with your community.
